It was hard to stop taking pictures of the brightly colored houses. The colorful city of St. Pierre stands in stark contrast to drab Fortune, Newfoundland. As expensive as gasoline was in Newfoundland, it's even more expensive on St. Pierre. It was about $5 USD per gallon in St. Pierre, versus $4 USD in Newfoundland. The owner of this house didn't get the memo that the 1970s ended 30 years ago. The road signs are as French as the rest of St. Pierre.

As in Newfoundland, St. Pierre graffiti is mostly political in nature, and is remarkably legible. I kept running into Bellevue-related things. In this case, I guess Bellevue is a French word so St. Pierre has the right to use it casually... Red phone booth on the St. Pierre waterfront. I didn't expect to see something so patriotic and American in a French bar. Crazy French payphone! This one was in a red phone booth on the waterfront.

A last look at France from across the ocean. Little Green Island, between St. Pierre and Fortune. This is Canadian territory, and is home to only a lighthouse and weather station. The town of Clarenville. It's in a beautiful spot just south of Terra Nova National Park, about 2 hours northwest of St. John's. Diversions Cybercafe, one of only two in the province of Newfoundland. The other is in Eastport, and is only open during the summer. It's a very successful business in Clarenville. Aliant is the local phone company in Newfoundland. I think their trucks are a lot more colorful than our local phone companies.
