Entering St. Pierre harbor. St. Pierre appears on the horizon. A first look at St. Pierre from the water. Two things you don't see much in North America--Peugeot cars and French license plates! Post office and customs house, St. Pierre.

St. Pierre waterfront commercial area. SPM Telecom, the phone company in St. Pierre. It is a local call to Paris from St. Pierre. This white payphone is in the lobby of the SPM Telecom main office, St. Pierre. Forget phone company trucks--SPM Telecom uses a tiny Citreoen! Restaurant and bar at the Hotel Robert.

A display in the lobby of the Hotel Robert outlines St. Pierre's colorful (and shady) past. One of two payphone types I saw in St. Pierre. This phone is in the lobby of the Hotel Robert. A close-up of the French satellite dish that provides cable TV to the island of St. Pierre. These satellite dishes keep St. Pierre connected to France. The larger one in front serves the island's cable TV system. The smaller one in the rear is operated by France Telecom. Legend has it that this house, built from rum boxes, was used by Al Capone's gang for smuggling.
